Although there was a decrease compared to the previous month from 200-500 VND per kilo, the current price of rice is still high, ranging from 5,000-6,900 VND per kilo, depending on the variety of rice. The price of rice increased from 500-1,000 VND per kilo compared to the same period, the number of harvested areas, farmers earned a high profit.

Farmers in Tan Hung district sowed the seeds of SA 2020 rice crop with an area of 36,969 hectare. The main varieties used in this crop are IR 50404, Dai Thom 8, Nang Hoa 9, ST24, OM 4900, Jasmine 85, etc. The number of early seeding so far has been harvested nearly 10,000 hectares, concentrated in such communes as Vinh Chau A, Vinh Buu and Vinh Dai, with productivity of 5.5-6 tons per ha (fresh rice), rice prices range from 5,000-7,000 VND per kilo. Farmers profit from 15-20 million VND per hectares after deducting expenses.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, living in Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district, shared that despite the adverse weather, prolonged hot weather makes rice grow slowly, thanks to proactive prevention of pests and diseases, the yield is quite good. His family’s more than 3 hectares of rice were harvested with yield of nearly 6 tons per hectare, selling price 5,700 VND per kilo (OM 4218 variety). With this price of rice, on average, each hectare of rice prrofits more than 15 million VND.

According to many farmers, in this crop, the yield of rice varieties averaged over every year, particularly sticky rice yield not only increased but also high selling prices. Mr. Dang Chi Thanh, living in Nhon Hoa commune, Tan Thanh district, harvested 3 hectares of sticky rice over the past 10 days, yielding more than 6 tons per hectare, selling for 7,000 VND per kilo. His family profits more than 70 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ket, living in Vinh Dai commune, Tan Hung district, has just harvested more than 2 hectares of sticky rice. Before harvesting, traders have contacted purchasing. Less pests and diseases

According to specialized branches, pests and diseases appear in SA rice crop 2020 (such as rice blast disease, rice thrips, brown backed rice plant hopper, alum poisoning, etc.) with the light density and percentage. Therefore, they do not affect much growth and development of rice.

According to statistics, there are 1,140 hectares of rice affected by blast disease, the prevalence of 5-10 percent, the disease appears in rice tillering - flowering stage in districts of Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa, Duc Hoa and Duc Hue; 784 hectares infected with brown backed plant hopper, the common density is 750-1,500 heads per square meter, focusing mainly on rice tillering - flowering in districts of Tan Thanh, Moc Hoa, Duc Hoa, Duc Hue and Kien Tuong town; 348 hectares of pollen winghoppers, common density 750-1,500 heads per square meter, concentrated mainly on tillering - flowering stage rice in Vinh Hung, Tan Hung and Kien Tuong towns; 1,054 hectares thrips, densities of 1,500-3,000 heads per square meter, appear on rice seedlings in the seedling stage in Moc Hoa, Duc Hoa and Kien Tuong towns. In addition, there are a number of other pests such as small leaf rollers (400 hectares), yellow snails (300 hectares), leaf blight disease (50 hectares), alum poisoning (45 hectares), and so on appeared on rice seedling - branching and flowering stage in the districts of Vinh Hung, Duc Hue and Kien Tuong town.

According to Vice Chairman of Vinh Hung District People's Committee - Tran Van Cuong, the SA rice crop 2020, farmers in the province sowed 28,706 out of 28,450 hectares. By this time, farmers harvest more than 100 hectares, yield from 5.8-6.4 tons per hectare. The remaining area is well developed. However, due to weather, some areas have been affected by pests and diseases. We have nearly 400 hectares affected by rice pests, harmful diseases, including 99 hectares of rice affected by blast leaf, 45 hectares of rice affected by leaf blight disease, 110 hectares of rice affected by pollen leafhoppers, 150 hectares of rice affected by grain blight disease.

Mr. Nguyen Son Loc, living in Khanh Hung commune, Vinh Hung district, said: "At present, 5 hectares of rice are damaged by leaf-rolling worms but the density is not significant, I actively sprayed preventive and spraying to have a successful crop".

In Moc Hoa district, up to now, 21,240 hectares of SA rice 2020 have been sown, of which, the seedling stage is more than 5,000 hectares, the tillering stage is over 8,000 hectares, the flowering stage is nearly 8,000 hectares and 200 hectares are ripe. The disease are mainly thrips, brown planthoppers, pollen-wing hoppers, leaf blast and leafworm with an area of nearly 1,700 hectares.

To have a good harvest

According to the prediction of the specialized industry, alum poisoning continues to arise on rice seedling - tillering, yellow snails increasing the infected area on newly sowed rice in the southern districts. Leaf blast, neck blight, smudges, leaf blight arise and increase the infected area on rice during maturity, concentrated in districts and towns of Dong Thap Muoi region.

“In order for the SA rice crop 2020 to succeed in all 3 aspects of area, yield and quantity, the district directs the relevant branches to closely monitor the situation of production, pests and diseases to propagate and guide farmers to prevent effective. Besides, it focuses on checking and taking measures to dredge sedimented canals to ensure sufficient water sources for irrigation, drainage for production and strengthening of mezzanine dike systems in lowland communes of the district to avoid floods at the end of the crop”, Mr. Tran Van Cuong said.

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Thanh Truyen said that the People's Committees of districts and towns instruct specialized agencies to regularly monitor the quality of water sources in order to ensure the successful production of the SA crop 2020 to ensure to sow seeds where it is recommended, focuses on seeding the remaining areas as planned; In areas affected by salinity due to the production of Winter-Spring crop 2019-2020, only sowing when saline water has been washed. The 3rd sowing for SA Rice crop 2020 will be implementes in non-active water source areas and southern districts from 13 to 25 of June 2020.

The development of pests and diseases are closely monitored in the field such as brown backed planthopper, leaf blast, leaf-blight, leaf-rolling disease, and so on to guide farmers on measures to manage and prevent their effects and safety. In addition, specialized agencies regularly inspect the irrigation system, consolidate and improve the field irrigation system, dikes and embankments; prepare to cope with abnormal rain and flood.

Particularly for the Autumn-Winter rice crop, it is based on the conditions of each locality to elaborate a detailed plan, closely monitor the situation of water sources, floods, dikes and market demand to arrange safe areas, strive to reach the output of 50,000 tons. The first Fall Winter rice seed calendar is from June 13 to 25, 2020 and ends up sowing by August 10, 2020 at the latest. For the crop year 2020-2021, the whole province sowed 1.800 hectares. It is necessary to pay attention to the time of forecasting the possibility of migration of brown planthoppers and the possibility of early saline intrusion affecting rice when arranging the season.

Based on the recommendations of the specialized industry, farmers need to be more proactive in taking care such as frequent field visits to promptly detect pests and diseases, take effective preventive measures.

By this time, the whole province sowed Summer-Autumn Rice 2020 with 181.809 out of 217,640 hectares, reaching 83.5 percent of the plan, equaling 82.1 percent over the same period in 2019. Farmers harvested nearly 34,000 hectares, mainly in such districts as Tan Thanh, Tan Hung and Vinh Hung. The yield is estimated at 57.4 quintals per hectare (dry rice), yield of 193,780 tons.
